​Principal's Message
Sister Betty Jean has been a member of the Religious Teachers Filippini for 55 years. She entered the convent at Villa Walsh after high school. Sister received her elementary education at Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, now known as Holy Redeemer, in Ellwood City, PA. Sister also attended a Catholic high school in Baden, PA, Mt. Gallitzen Academy.
After Sister’s initial formation in the religious community, and her college education, she began teaching in a 6th grade classroom. Sister Betty Jean taught 6th-8th graders for 13 years before assuming her first principal position at Villa Walsh Academy. As a member of the religious community, Sister was missioned to various assignments. Sister served as principal for a total of 33 years at 5 schools.
In between her duties as principal she was asked by the religious community to serve as Director of Ministries for 6 years, and prior to her making her way back to Hammonton, she served as Provincial Superior for her Community for 6 years.
Sister Betty Jean is very happy to be back at SJRES to serve the children and their families. The mission of the school remains constant and that is to foster the development of each student’s character and well-being.
Every day brings its own challenges, but with the help of God we are fulfilling His will.

We are now in the process of accepting re-registrations and new registrations for the 2019-2020 school year.
Catholic Schools have a tradition of excellence, and research shows that students who attend enjoy an advantage in academic achievement over their peers. The Diocese of Camden has a number of efforts in place to ensure that we build on our tradition of excellence and achievement to continue to provide the very best formation as a partner with you in the education of your children.
1) Keeping Catholic Identity at the Heart: All of our efforts in curriculum, assessment, and instruction are consistent with our Catholic identity. All subjects are taught from a Catholic perspective, and teachers maintain the flexibility and responsibility to design classes and lessons that meet the needs of their students in the unique ways possible in a Catholic school.
2) Revised Curriculum: Through a partnership with the Penn Literacy Network of the University of Pennsylvania, and in conjunction with the University of Notre Dame Ace Collaborative the science, math, and language arts curriculum have been revised and are now implemented. The Social Studies curriculum revision is being piloted this school year and will be fully implemented in 2019-2020.
This collaborative effort ensures that our curriculum represents the most challenging content and skills for all students. All of the schools in the diocese, including St. Joseph Regional Elementary School, are taking the best from state and national standards and sharing successes and resources to ensure that our curriculum is challenging for our students and true to our Catholic identity.
All of these efforts are leading to positive changes in instruction in the classroom and assessment of learning that engage and challenge all students and help us to continuously respond to their needs. Such responsiveness and the dedication of our teachers to continuous improvement are two of the hallmarks of the high quality Catholic education that your children receive at St. Joseph Regional Elementary School.
