Mrs. Kim Healy
About Me
My name is Mrs. Kim Healy and this is my 8th year teaching Pre-K thru 8th grade music at St. Joseph Elementary School. I graduated from Houghton College in NY with a Bachelor of Music degree in music education with an emphasis on instrumental music including the Suzuki method of teaching strings. I hold a regular NJ teaching certification for K-12 Music and have over 20 years experience in both the public and private school setting. While teaching in public school, I was selected by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra to become a member of the Master Teacher's Collaborative where I worked with others to develop curriculum for their Children's Concert series. I recieved the NJSO award for Excellence in Teaching , in recognition of ourstanding professional contribution to music education in the state of New Jersey. Outside of the classroom I have worked with string students in a private studio setting. Many of my middle/high school level students were involved in the Rowan Youth Orchestra with some auditioning/participating in All-South Jersey Orchestra. In my previous position, I developed a violin class for Kindergarten children to experience the discipline and fun of learning to play a string instrument.
Teaching Style/Philosophy/Interesting Things I Do In the Classroom
My goal in teaching is for my students to attain knowledge with enjoyment and positive self-esteem, while instilling life long music appreciation and excellent listening skills. I work to create and implement multi-sensory lessons and use positive reinforcement to maintain a productive and focused classroom.
What I Like Most About St. Joseph Regional School
I like teaching at St. Joseph Regional School because it gives me the freedom to incorporate religious music, ideas and values into the curriculum. God gave us voices so that we could use them to praise Him.
Why I Would Recommend St. Joseph Regional School
I would recommend St. Joseph Regional School due to their commitment to teaching the whole child and their philosophy that Religion and the Arts are part of that.
Interests Outside of Teaching/Personal Life
Time outside of school is spent with my family and volunteering with different arts related groups. We enjoy hiking in the mountains, biking and kayaking. My daughter and I both enjoy horseback riding, caring for our own horse and helping out around the stables.
