Middle School - Language Arts

About Me
I have been teaching at St. Joseph Regional Elementary since 2008. I began my career here as a substitute teacher working in grades one through eight, and I was fortunate enough to fill in for a long term maternity leave and I have been here ever since. Although I began working here full time in 2008, I have had a long time involvement in our school. I myself graduated from St. Joseph School, as well as my father, aunt, and all three of my children. I have been a wildcat for as long as I can remember.
Before I was a teacher, I was in the business world, owning my own business with my brother as my partner. Although very rewarding, I was thrilled to be back to my love of teaching. I graduated Cum Laude from Glassboro State in 1992 earning my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and I earned my highly qualified status in Middle School Language Arts in 2012.
In my free time, I enjoy swimming, volleyball and jogging. Last year I even got to jump off the Cape May Lewis Ferry in the “Escape the Cape” triathlon. What an experience! I also enjoy taking students to our local food pantry to help with our ever growing needs of the poor in our community.
Teaching Style/Philosophy/Interesting Things I Do In the Classroom
My teaching philosophy is to have a safe teaching environment to allow students to feel comfortable to take risks. I encourage students to be a complete person: academically, spiritually, socially and physically. My desire is for students to be able to communicate, convey ideas, and express themselves to the best of their ability in the written and verbal forms.
I try to accomplish this thorough a variety of projects and assignments. In writing we do letter writing, research papers or daily journal entries. In reading we address various genres and complete book reports through power point or even acting out their favorite part.
What I Like Most About St. Joseph Regional School
Family like atmosphere and being able to openly discuss our faith. We have small class sizes and great parent involvement.
Why I Would Recommend St. Joseph Regional School
St. Joseph School develops an all-round student. We give them a firm foundation in their faith and are very challenging academically.
Interests Outside of Teaching/Personal Life
Faith, family and friends are the most important things in my life. Outside of school I enjoy the outdoors, traveling and food! I love discovering new cuisine from various cultures. My children, although they are pretty much self sufficient, keep me pretty busy. They are my greatest treasure. It has given me such joy to see them grow up and become wonderful men.
