Tests-
Tests will always be announced. If a student is absent for the test, but present for the review, the test will be made up the next day the student is present. If a student is absent for the review, the student will make up the test the second day the student is present.

Quizzes may not always be announced.

Homework-
Homework is given to reinforce lessons taught that day, not as a punishment. It must be completed in the students’ notebooks (unless a workbook page), in pen, and in cursive. Homework that is turned in incomplete or late will have points deducted. Students have one extra day to get credit for late homework (with a ten point deduction). After that it is a zero. Notebooks and workbooks will be checked regularly for neatness and organization. Homework is graded on a weekly basis; each assignment is worth 100 points. So, for example, if in a week students had three homework assignments, there would be a total of three hundred points available to earn for the week.

Responsibility Grade-
This encompasses:

Preparation. For example-Having correct books and supplies such as- pens, theme paper, highlighters. Homework and projects turned in on time and complete.

Participation. For example- Volunteering answers, partaking in classroom discussions and staying on task.

Organization of materials. For example- Keeping track of handouts, having only Language Arts in Language Arts notebook.

Behavior. For example- On time for class. Coming into class prepared to get to work immediately. Not causing disturbances. Being kind and courteous to others.
Procedure
Writing Everyday!
All students begin class with timed Journal Writing. This process gets them into the habit of utilizing their time to:
1. Plan
2. Write
3. Revise
Notebooks
Three subject notebooks should be divided into:
1. Reading
2. Grammar
3. Journal
It is important to start the year organized! No other subjects should be written in this notebook.
