About Me

I have a unique background in that prior to pursuing a profession in education, I worked in a scientific and research environment. Specifically, I have experience working in an environmental sciences laboratory, the pharmaceutical industry, and university research. In 1992, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in the Biological Sciences from Rutgers College/Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and by 2000, I completed my academic requirements for the Master of Science Program in Biomedical Chemistry at Thomas Jefferson University’s College of Graduate Studies. I had always had a passion to teach but did not begin to pursue it until 2006 as a substitute teacher at St. Joseph, subbing all the grades from 1st to 8th. I was St. Joseph Regional Elementary School’s librarian from 2007 to 2010, while continuing to substitute for both the elementary and middle schools. It was in 2010 that I began to formally pursue the Alternate Route in Elementary Education with the State of New Jersey to earn my Kindergarten through 5th grade Standard Elementary Education Teaching Certificate.
From 2010 to 2012, I was blessed to have the opportunity to teach 3rd grade at St. Joseph Regional Elementary School. Since 2012, I have substituted for St. Joseph elementary and middle schools and was a permanent substitute at Mullica Township School District in the Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grades. I also have 4 years experience teaching religious education to 3rd and 4th grades at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish and what was once St. Martin De Porres Church. I am very happy and grateful to be welcomed back again to St. Joseph School to teach the 3rd grade.

Teaching Style/Philosophy/Interesting Things I Do In the Classroom
I believe that third grade is an important transition from the early elementary grades to the later elementary grades. In the third grade, I believe students are ready to take on more independence with writing their homework assignments, preparing and studying for quizzes/tests, gradually writing in and mastering cursive, regularly practicing multiplication facts, and reading to comprehend just to name a few. All of these skills lead to better study habits and organization of their work and are necessary for preparation for the higher grades. The process will take patience and involvement of student, the parents, and myself. It will help if we all work together to make this transition happen. I believe that it is essential for students to receive encouragement and positive feedback to help develop a sense of pride and responsibility for their work. I will provide a safe, caring learning environment for my students, and I will ensure that every student feels included and each one’s academic and spiritual needs are met. Students will be able to work individually, cooperatively with partners, or in small collaborative groups throughout the school year. I strongly believe that each child has unique talents and interests and encourage respect, participation and cooperation to develop these gifts and enjoy a love for learning.

What I Like Most About St. Joseph Regional School

After sending my two children to St. Joseph Regional Elementary School and having worked there a number of years, I can say that the Catholic-based education makes a positive difference in educating a child. Students are prepared academically, spiritually, and socially for society. The teachers are passionate and dedicated individuals. Students and parents are offered a number of ways to become involved in the school and that gives St. Joe its family feel. The selection of extracurricular activities offered to students ensures that there is something for everyone and includes everything from art club, instrumental lessons, sports, to altar serving at school Masses.

Why I Would Recommend St. Joseph Regional School

My husband and I felt there was not a better place to educate our two children than at St. Joseph Regional Elementary School. Our daughter and son both completed Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade at St. Joe. Their education, centered around the Catholic faith, has instilled in them good moral values, respect, discipline and the knowledge to become productive, faithful young people in today’s society.

Interests Outside of Teaching/Personal Life
Activities I enjoy doing outside of school are travelling and spending time with my family, biking, reading, baking, doing puzzles/playing board games, and playing with our 2 family pets Carolina and Charleston (aka. Charlie).
