Welcome To Fourth Grade
4A - Miss Ayala

We are very excited to have 1:1 ChromeBooks in our classroom! Students enjoy using them for Kahoot! review games and Freckle.

Religion: We are exploring the 10 commandment in depth, one commandment at a time.

Reading: As a class we have completed 5 novels together. We continually are working on character traits, foreshadowing and author's purpose. We also are enjoying exploring different genres in Library with Sr. Barbara. So far we have covered mysteries, the classics and biographies.

English/Writing:

Social Studies: We are nearing the end of our study of New Jersey. We have reached the European settlers coming to New Jersey. We will soon be switching to our studies to Regions of the United States.

Science: We are focused on the life cycle and structure of plants. We will be exploring plants with hands on experiences from the use of microscopes to planting.

Supplies
Please make sure you come prepared to school - (pencils, paper, black erasable pens) and all other assigned supplies. Text books must be covered with book socks. Notebooks must be kept neat. ( no torn out pages) Workbooks covered with clear contact paper.
Homework
Some homework is given every night. A study assignment, although not written is still considered homework. Assignments are due the day after they are assigned unless other dates are given. All homework must be completed neatly - in cursive. All assignments must be copied in the planner.
Classwork
All work needs to be completed in school. If work is not completed in a timely, the child will complete it for homework that evening. Classwork is sometimes taken as a grade.

Grading Scale:
Tests/Projects: 40%
Quizzes: 25%
Homework/Classwork: 25%
Participation: 10%
Tests/Quizzes/Projects
Tests will typically have 3 days notice. Spelling is a weekly test that will be given on Wednesdays. This day will not change due to a Friday/Monday holiday. There will be projects (both group and individual) that will be assigned through out the year. Quizzes will be given periodically to check students understanding on subject vocabulary and/or lesson skill. Most quizzes will have 2 days notice; however some of these quizzes will not be announced.
Absent Work
Work for absent students will be recorded and along with any handouts, pinned to our “While you were out” board. Students are responsible for taking their packet on the day they return. Students have the same number of days to make up work as the number of days they were absent. If they are absent the day of a test or quiz, they are expected to make up the test/quiz on the day they return to school. If a review for a test is missed, they may have an extra day to make up the test.
